Situated in Spencer County, Kentucky, Taylorsville is a fourth class city with an estimated population of more than 1,300 residents. The county seat of Spencer County, Taylorsville is known for its wildlife and rural ambiance. It’s also home to the beautiful Taylorsville Lake and Taylorsville Lake State Park, which sits along the 3,050-acre lake.
Founded in 1799, present-day Taylorsville sits on the land of Richard Taylor, who was the father of U.S. President Zachary Taylor. The Shelby County Court took roughly 60-acres of land on Taylor’s motion, and it wasn’t long until the town was named after the man himself. Spencer County Court admitted Taylorsville to record in 1814, and by 1814, the town was officially incorporated.
As of today, the city of Taylorsville is a great place to live with its small-town charm, laid back lifestyle and friendly people. Police and fire protection is top-notch and water and sewer services are provided by the municipality. Recent renovations have enhanced the appearance of the downtown area and the city is increasing in size each year.
While there are several outlets for shopping situated throughout the city, many shopping centers are also located near the city, including Kentucky’s only Outlet Mall, which houses many anchor stores from some of the most popular clothing brands around the globe. Furthermore, several eateries provide residents with many choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
For recreation, residents in the city head to the Spencer County Waterford Park, Jeffersontown Veterans Memorial Park, and of course, Taylorsville Lake State Park that offers a wide variety of opportunities, including biking, birding, boating, camping, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, orienteering at its 1,200-acre site.
When it comes to education, two pre-K schools, five elementary schools, two middle schools and 2 high schools serve the students in the city. For parents who want to explore private schooling options, there are a number of private schools located near the city. However, there are no universities serving adult students in the city.
The city of Taylorsville receives 47 inches of rainfall and 5 inches of snowfall per year.
