About Shelbyville, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
A home rule-class city situated near the center of Shelby County, Kentucky, Shelbyville has an estimated population of more than 14,100 residents. It’s the county seat of Shelby County and lies in the Kentucky Derby Region, home to Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville, and not to mention, the world renowned Kentucky Derby.
Established in 1792, Shelbyville was primarily an agricultural community producing beef, corn, pork, hemp and tobacco. The town saw a period of boom after the Civil War, particularly after the Shelby Railroad’s connection to the Louisville, Cincinnati and Lexington Railroad located at Anchorage. As a result, the downtown area expanded and many ornate, large buildings were erected.
Following a fire in 1909, the first banks of Shelbyville were organized. Libraries, electricity and a public service system was also brought to the town during the late 19th century. In 1960, Interstate 64 was completed 2 miles south of Shelbyville and this made the area more industrialized. The population of the city also increased significantly during this period.
As of today, the city of Shelbyville is one of Kentucky’s most diverse communities. It’s unique blend of industry, agriculture and business, coupled with the small town atmosphere and lifestyle, makes the city a wonderful place to work, visit or live. Recognized by many as the ‘Saddlebred Capital of the World’, Shelbyville hosts an annual horse show that several famous people visit.
For golf enthusiasts, there are a number of courses featuring rolling hills, pristine greens and immaculate fairways that challenge and inspire. The Shelby County Community Theater and Great Escape 8 Shelbyville offer arts and entertainment opportunities for both children and adults. Residents enjoy water sports at Lake Shelby, which offers 20-acres for picnicking, fishing, nature trail, camping, canoeing and ramp.
As far as education is concerned, students in the city attend Shelby County Public Schools, which encompasses six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The Shelby County Education Center at Cropper and Area Technology Center offers alternative educational opportunities to students.
The city receives 47 inches of rainfall and 12 inches of rainfall per year. With the average high in the summer season around 88 degrees, having a well-functioning air conditioning system is crucial to lower the temperature in your home. Furthermore, since the mercury drops as low as 20 degrees in the winter season, you should consider investing in a heat pump to maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the season.
