About Prospect, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
A home rule-class city situated in Oldham and Jefferson counties in the State of Kentucky, Prospect has an estimated population of more than 4,700 residents. Bordered by Harrods Creek to the southwest, Oldham County to the northeast, and the Ohio River to the west, Prospect is one Kentucky’s wealthiest communities.
Formerly known as Sand Hill, the area was settled by farmers during the late 18th century. Present-day prospect grew around the railroad station established by Louisville, Harrods Creek and Westport Railway in 1872. It was named ‘Prospect’ due to either the expected completion of the line - which collapsed into bankruptcy and never did reach Westport owing to the Long Depression - or the view from the top of the hill.
In 1886, the first post office was established. It was named Wilhoyte by the local postmaster in his own honor, however, the community corrected this later that month. While a few luxury residencies existed in Prospect in the late 19th century, the area was primarily agricultural and sparsely populated until the mid-1960s. In the following years, large, high-end subdivisions were constructed, and by 1974 Prospect officially became a city.
As of today, is one of the most well educated and wealthiest cities in Kentucky. Garbage removal and recycling is provided by the city. The Lawrence C. Falk Library offers at least 3,000 biographies, fiction and non-fiction books and videos for education and entertainment. For recreation, there are four local parks that offer the community with areas for wildlife and nature viewing, canoeing, family gatherings and hiking.
Public and private golf courses are also available in Prospect, which offers golf lovers with outstanding facilities, stunning views and incomparable charm. The city has a wide variety of local restaurants that serve various kinds of cuisines. From enjoying a delicious meal at a table by the river or barbeque from the best joint in town, residents have plenty of options to choose from. There are also many boutiques, specialty stores and a supermarket located in the city.
The city receives 47 inches of rainfall and 14 inches of snowfall per year. With the average high in the summers around 88 degrees, you should have a reliable air conditioning system in place to maintain comfort in your home. Moreover, since the mercury drops as low as 22 degrees in the winters, it’s highly recommend that you install a heat pump to keep your rooms at your desired temperature.
