About Mt Washington, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
A home rule-class city situated in Bullitt County, Kentucky, Mount Washington has an estimated population of more than 14,000 residents. The city - which is one of the many surrounding the city of Louisville - experienced a sharp increase in population over the past three decades, making it a commuter town.
Formally established as Mount Vernon in 1822, the settlement at that time boasted two schools, two taverns, three churches, six groceries and stores as well as twelve mechanical trades. After it was incorporated as a city in 1833, the name of the town was changed to ‘Mount Washington’, honoring the first president of the United States.
By the 1850s, Mt Washington became the center of economic activity in Bullitt County. In 1916, a four-room school building was built, where now Mt. Washington Middle School stands. As the city’s industries aged, Mt Washington lost its status as the most prominent town in the county by the 1930s, but the launching of General Electric’s Appliance Park led to an influx of new residents between 1960 and 1970.
As of today, Mt Washington is a thriving and vibrant city. Regarded as one of the safest communities for families and children in Kentucky, the city’s Bullitt East High School ranks in the top 10 performing schools in the state. Forward-looking city leadership coupled with active businesses, top-notch schools and affordable housing is what makes Mt. Washington a great place to live and call home.
The city is making progress with regards to parks and recreation facilities. The park located behind Mt. Washington Elementary Schools is currently undergoing overhauling and will open with new playground equipment as well as a skate and bike park along with tennis courts. The city’s Sports Complex is expected to be available by the summer of 2017.
As far as education is concerned, Mt. Washington is served by Bullitt County Public Schools, which encompasses one high school, two middle schools and four elementary schools within the city limits. A new elementary school is also under construction. There are, however, no universities or colleges in the city.
Mt. Washington receives 47 inches of rainfall and 5 inches of snowfall per year. With the average high in the summers around 87 degrees, having a reliable air conditioning system is essential to lower the temperature in your home. Moreover, since the mercury drops as low as 24 degrees in the winters, it’s highly recommend that you install a heat pump to make it through the season comfortably.
